I recently (August 2026) purchased a pair of Dallas MocToe Boots in Dark Navy Horserump, and after working through the sizing, I’m very pleased with the boots.
The craftsmanship is excellent. The construction is substantial, the finishing is generally very good, and the Dark Navy Horserump leather is particularly impressive. I also appreciated BLKBRD’s willingness to customise the boots, including changing the Vibram Christy outsole to black and adding a tongue loop to help keep the tongue centred.
The sizing process was more complicated than it should have been. I was initially advised to order 41E based on the measurements I provided, but the boots I received were 41EEE and were significantly too large.
BLKBRD accepted the issue and arranged a replacement after reviewing my measurements and photos. They also allowed me to change the replacement leather from Burgundy Chromexcel to Dark Navy Horserump, with the cost of the return shipping credited towards the upgrade. That flexibility and willingness to work with me deserves genuine praise.
The replacement pair in 40EE fits much better, although after wearing them I still find the EE width slightly too generous. A 2 mm leather insole helps dial in the fit.
My main criticism is customer service and communication for the Western market. While BLKBRD ultimately resolved the sizing issue positively, the process involved repeated requests for updates, inconsistent timelines and delays in dispatch. For an overseas customer, particularly when sizing and customisation are involved, clearer communication and more proactive order updates would significantly improve the experience.
Overall, I think BLKBRD makes very good boots with excellent craftsmanship and customisation options.
The Dallas MocToe offers strong value, and I genuinely like my Dark Navy Horserump pair now that I have dialled in the fit.
BLKBRD has the shoemaking quality. The next step is investing in the customer experience, particularly communication and support for customers in Western markets. If they can bring that aspect up to the standard of their craftsmanship, I believe they have the potential to build a very strong international reputation.
