Just received my BLKBRD Rudiger today in Chromexcel Color 8. This is not a full review and I am not an expert boot collector...just early thoughts right out of the box.
This Rudiger is my second pair from BLKBRD. My first was the Dixon in Chromexcel, and I even made a YouTube video about it. A lot of people asked me to do a long-term update on the Dixons… but honestly, I have been too lazy/unmotivated to make another video.
That said, I think the best “answer” to whether I am happy with BLKBRD is this: I went ahead and bought a second pair from them.
Fit and comfort: The Rudiger fits almost perfect. I wear UK 7 in Nike sneakers, but I went with UK 6.5 for these. My Dixon in UK 7 ended up being slightly less snug than I prefer, so I adjusted accordingly this time. I had ordered a trial Rudiger beforehand to dial in sizing. Definitely worth this extra effort. Both units fit great and I am excited to break them in.
Leather: I know about the infamous Chromexcel lottery, but I got lucky again. To my non-expert eyes, both my Dixon and now the Rudiger have really clean, beautiful panels.
Stitching and welting: Stitching on the upper is fairly consistent, especially compared to the welting, where there are a few inconsistencies. None of these shall impact durability in any way, and I expect this given that they are hand-welted and the price I paid (27,400 INR or 290 USD including an extra mid-sole).
Customisation: I asked for an extra midsole and brass eyelets. BLKBRD accomodated and also included extra insoles for both my Rudiger and old Dixons.
Delivery and communication: I was in touch with Sandeep throughout and the boots were delivered to me in India ~3 weeks after I gave him a green signal on the sizing (after I wore the test pair they sent me).
Overall, I am very happy with my Rudiger. Also, let me know if you would like to see more photos and I shall upload them in comments.
TLDR: Rudiger Chromexcel Color 8 is my second BLKBRD boot (Dixon Chromexcel was my first), no longevity complaints, happy with leather panels, happy with stitching and welting, great fit (I sized down -0.5 UK).
