Velar is a classic double monk design with plain vamp. This distinct style of strap enclosure on a Monk strap provides a more firm and glove like fit to the wearers' feet. Velar-X Monk (Chestnut Museum Calf New Age)—formal

Definitely a very formal last. The shoe is pretty snug, and judging by the same dimensions used with a different last, I suspect the FF4 last is the reason. It's a formal last for a very nice shoe.

The reddish chestnut makes for a striking color, but the smooth vamp, fiddle-back waist, and the golden zinc buckles all add to the formality. What a beauty! Normally I would think, "Oh, I could use a monk strap for an upscale casual", but I would never use these for anything close to casual. They are too beautiful, and I will be saving these for more formal events. Also, with the snug last, to start you probably don't want to wear these for over 5 hours at a time unless you have already broken them in and they become really comfortable. I've only had them for a few weeks, so I can't say how they wear over time.

Meanwhile, these were one of four that I purchased, and the shoes all arrived together a little over a month later. Great timing for custom MTO shoes!
